I have heard the expression “Jump in the river of life. A fish in water is never thirsty.” And so I did. I was born and raised among the lush countryside of Thasala, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Southern Thailand, where my father owned a coffee shop. This shop would play films that my father and I would ride 36 kilometers twice a week, to rent from the video store.   My curiosity began here.

At age 13, I left school and ventured into adult life. I discovered that the “hands on” method of learning would be the best way for me to take on new projects and acquire new skills.

As an admirer of the art of film making, I was excited to wake to a revelation one morning, “Why not? Why not make a movie?” Though I did not have experience in filming, I did have experience diving into the unknown. I had been taught that in order to do something, I would have to immerse myself in it.

In my first film, Absolution, I explored the unspoken challenges that can come with motherhood by engaging the topic with tenderness and a deep self-reflection of my own prejudices. It was one of the most testing experiences of my life, and if I'd known that beforehand I might not have begun, but now I know I never want to stop.

I have found my river.
